Drovin^®

Drotaverine Hydrochloride is a new potent synthetic antispasmodic drug, which is readily absorbed from the intestine. Like Papaverine, it acts directly on the smooth muscle fibres, exceeding however, the antispasmodic effect of the standard preparations. Drotaverine Hydrochloride is characterized by its rapid onset of actions which has advantage in case of acute painful spastic conditions. In addition to its spasmolytic and vasodilatory actions Drotaverine Hydrochloride elicits a selective blockade of cardiac beta-receptors.

Gastric, intestinal or pyloric spasm, cholelithiasis and spastic constipation, tenesmus in dysentery, dysmenorrhoea, peri­pheral vascular disorders. Owing to its freedom from cardiotoxic and hypotensive effects Drotaverine Hydrochloride has outstanding value in the treatment of coronary insufficiency and angina pectoris.

For tablet
Adults: The usual dose for adults is 1 to 2 tablets three times daily.
Children: Children should be given smaller doses according to age and body weight.
1-6 years: ¹/₄ to ¹/2 tablet once or twice daily.
Over 6 years: ¹/2 to 1 tablet daily.

For injection
Adults: 2 to 4ml injection one to three times daily, intramuscularly or subcutaneously. In case of acute stone colics 2 to 4ml may be given by slow intravenous injection.
In peptic ulcer it is expedient to combine Drotaverine Hydrochloride with Atropine or Atropine-like compounds.

There is no known case of teratogenicity in animal studies.

Caution should be taken for patients suffering from liver and kidney disease.

Drovin® is contra-indicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Drotaverine Hydrochloride.

Levodopa (anti-perkinson effect may be decreased).

Drovin^® Injection: A light yellow clear sterile solution. Each 2ml ampoule contains Drotaverine Hydrochloride INN 40mg.

Drovin^® Tablets: Cartons of 100 tablets in Alu-PVC blister.

Drovin^® Injection: 5 ampoules in a box.
