Description
Maxiflox ® is a preparation of Moxifloxacin, which is an 8-methoxy fluoroquinolone. Moxifloxacin shows antibacterial activity by lnhibiting the topoisomerase II (responsible for replication,transcription,and repair of bacterial DNA) and topoisomerase IV(responsible for the partitioning of the chromosomal DNA during bacterial cell division)

Indications
Maxiflox ® is indicated for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of the following organisms:
Aerobic Gram-positive microorganisms: Corynebacterium species Micrococcus luteus - Staphylococcus aureus Staphylococcus epidermidis Staphylococcus hamolyticus Staphylococcus hominis Staphylococcus warneri Streptococcus pneumoniae Aerobic Gram-negative microorganisms : Acinetobacter lwoffii Haemophilus influenzae Haemophilus parainfluenzae Other microorganism:
Chlamydia trachomatis

Dosage and administration
One drop in the affected eye 3 times a day for 7 days.

Use in pregnancy & lactation
Moxifloxacin solution should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.Although it can be presumed to be excreted in human milk so caution should be taken to nursing mother.

Precautions
Prolong use of Moxifloxacin sotution may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. If super infection occurs,use in should be discontinued.
Patients with bacterial conjunctivitis should be advised not to wear contact lenses.

Side effects
The most frequently reported ocular adverse events are conjunctivitis,decreased visual acuity,dry eye,keratitis,ocular discomfort,ocular hyperemia,ocular pain,ocular pruritus,subconjunctival hemorrhage and tearing.

Contraindications
Moxifloxacin solution is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin,to other quinolones, or to any of the components in this medicatio

Drug interactions
In vitro studies indicate that Moxifloxacin does not inhibit or alter the pharmacokinetics of drugs by cytochrome P450 isozymes.

Maxiflox ® eye drop: A clear, light yellow color, sterile aqueous solution free from any visible material.It is an isotonic solution that is sterile until tne bottle is opened. Each ml contains Moxifloxacin 5 mg as Hydrochloride INN.
