Polyron ^® Plus

Polyron ® Plus is a combined preparation of Iron, vitamin B12 and Folic acid. In Polyron Plus Iron is presented as Iron Polymaltose complex, which contains non-ionic Ferric Iron and Polymaltose in a stable complex. This complex facilitates absorption of the Iron in the mucosa. Iron Polymaltose Complex is better tolerated than conventional Iron preparation. Vitamin B12 andFolic acid are essential for the development and maturation of haemoglobin.

Polyron ® Plus is indicated for the prevention and treatment of Iron, vitamin B12 and Folic acid deficiency. Also indicated for the prevention of Iron deficiency during pregnancy and lactation and as prophylactic therapy of Iron deficiency to cover the recommended daily dietary allowance.

Adult: 1-2 capsules daily; as recommended by the physician.
Children: 1 capsule daily; as recommended by the physician.
Infant: As recommended by the physician.

Polyron ® Plus can be used in pregnancy and lactation.

Caution should be applied where there is a risk of Iron overload, e.g. Haemochromatosis, Thalassaemia, Haemosiderosis or Haemolytic anaemia.

Generally well tolerated. In individual cases, a few side-effects occur to oral Iron preparation, such as nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhoea.

Contra-indicated in patients with known hypersensivity to any of its ingredients.

Generally no interactions of Polyron Plus have been observed. Iron may decrease the absorption of antacids, tetracycline, quinolone antibiotics, levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa and pencillamine. Folic acid interacts with antiepileptic drugs, no plasma concentrations of Phenobarbital, phenytoin possibly reduced.

Initially epigastric pain, diarrhea and vomiting can occur of overdose. Metabolic acidosis, convulsions and coma can occur after recovery. In case of overdose an emetic should be given followed by gastric lavage and general supportive measures.
