Description

Sapotor® is a preparation of Glycerol which is a hyperosmotic laxative, given rectally, which usually produces a bowel movement within 15 minutes to 1 hour. Hyperosmotic Glyceroltives encourage bowel movements by drawing water into the bowel from surrounding tissues. This produces a softer stool mass and increased bowel action. These products are used for fast, predictable relief of occasional constipation.

Indications

Sapotor® is indicated for the relief of occasional constipation.


Dosage and administration

Adults and children over 6 years: Sapotor® 2.30 g rectally once daily.

Children 2 to 6 years: Sapotor® 1.15 g rectally once daily.

Children less than 2 years: As directed by the physician.


Use in pregnancy & lactation

Glycerol is pregnancy category C. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy, therefore, Glycerol should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to fetus. In lactation Glycerol should be given by the advice of the health professional.

Side effects

Glycerol when used rectally may cause rectal discomfort or a burning sensation.


Contraindications

Glycerol is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Glycerol or to any of the component of the excipients.
